# After-school care and activities

> Świetlica declarations and extracurricular sign-ups.

Two statements you make once a school year and then mostly forget about:
the hours your child spends in after-school care, and whether they attend
religion or ethics classes. Both work the same way — we record only what
you declared, and withdrawing it removes it without a trace.

<Note>
  Both statements attach to a **child enrolled in a class**, not to a child
  on your own list. Until you enrol a child somewhere you'll see "You have
  no enrolled children yet. Once you enrol a child in a class, their
  after-school care card appears here." The difference between a child and a
  student is explained in
  [Children and contact details](/en/parent/children-and-details).
</Note>

## Enrolling in after-school care

Go to **After-school care**. An enrolment covers **one child for one
school year** — you file it once, and the app says plainly that it is not
a one-way door:

> Give the hours your child spends in after-school care in *(school
> year)*. You can change the hours at any time, or withdraw the enrolment.

The statement itself reads:

> I am stating that my child will use the school's after-school care
> during the hours given below, before lessons and after them.

You give **two times**, and each one stands alone:

| Field                     | In-app hint                                                 | What it means                                  |
| ------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------- |
| **From (morning)** | "Leave empty if your child does not arrive before lessons." | When your child arrives, before lessons start. |
| **Until (after lessons)** | "Leave empty if your child does not stay after lessons." | When they leave, after lessons end. |

Fill in one or both — but **not neither**. A card with no hours says
nothing, so the app rejects it: "Give a morning or an afternoon hour — a
card with neither states nothing." If you give both and swap them round,
you'll see "The morning hour must come before the end of afternoon care."

Confirm with **Enrol in after-school care**; the app answers
"After-school care hours saved." From then on your child shows "Your child
is enrolled in after-school care for *(school year)*.", and before you
declare anything — "No after-school care enrolment for *(school year)*."

<Note>
  The hours apply **uniformly across the whole school year**. There is no
  choice of weekdays and no individual dates — if your child's attendance
  varies day to day, give the hours that describe the usual case and settle
  exceptions with the care room directly.
</Note>

## Changing and withdrawing an after-school enrolment

You change the hours in the same form — type the new ones and press **Save
changes**. This does not create a second card: the one you already have is
updated.

You withdraw with **Withdraw enrolment**; the app confirms "After-school
care enrolment withdrawn."

<Warning>
  Withdrawing **deletes the card entirely** rather than turning it into "does
  not attend". That is deliberate: once a child stops going to after-school
  care, the school should not be holding a document saying they do. Your
  child then shows "No after-school care enrolment for *(school year)*."
  again, and you can enrol them afresh whenever you like.
</Warning>

You cannot withdraw by clearing both hours and saving — such a form is
rejected as empty. Withdrawal has its own button.

## Religion and ethics

Go to **Classes**. Sign-ups cover two classes: **Religion** and
**Ethics**. The app introduces them briefly: "Sign your child up for
classes in *(school year)*. You can withdraw a signup at any time."

Each is a **separate sign-up** — this is not an "either religion or
ethics" choice. You can sign your child up for one, the other, both, or
neither.

* **Sign up** — the **Sign up** button next to the class. The app confirms
  "Signed up for *(name)*.", and your child shows "Signed up for *(school
  year)*."
* **Withdraw** — the **Withdraw signup** button. The app confirms "Withdrew
  the signup for *(name)*.", and the state returns to "Not signed up."

<Note>
  Not signing up is **not a statement of non-attendance**. The app says so
  outright: "Only attendance is recorded. If you do not sign your child up,
  nothing is stored — the school does not collect statements of
  non-attendance." A blank entry is an absence of information, not a stored
  "no".
</Note>

There is no cap on places and no waiting list — a sign-up cannot fail
because someone got there first.

## How long you have to do it

**The app sets no deadline.** You can sign up, change and withdraw at any
point in the school year — there is no date after which the form closes,
and no hour at which changes stop being accepted.

<Warning>
  The app not enforcing a deadline does not mean there isn't one. The school
  and the care room staff their rooms from these declarations and may have
  their own deadline, announced outside the app. If you change hours
  mid-year, tell the care room directly rather than assuming somebody will
  notice the change in the system.
</Warning>

The one condition the app really does check is an **active class
enrolment**. Without it you'll see "After-school care enrolment requires
an active class enrolment." or "A child can only be signed up while their
class enrollment is active." At this point the enrolment may still be
**Pending** — you do not have to wait for the homeroom teacher's approval.

Both statements can be filed, changed and withdrawn by **any guardian**
linked to the child, not just whoever filed first. If the other parent
signs the child up for the same class, no second sign-up is created.

## What the school does with it

It is worth knowing who acts on this and when, because the answer is not
obvious.

**Nobody is notified.** Enrolling, changing the hours and withdrawing send
no email and no text to the homeroom teacher, the care room or the office.
Declarations are read when somebody at the school opens the class list —
not at the moment you file them.

Two lists exist on the school's side, both available to the class's
homeroom teacher and to the people who run the school's affairs:

| List                                         | What it holds                                                                                  |
| -------------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **After-school care — *(school year)*** | Student, **From (morning)**, **Until (after lessons)** for every enrolled child, with a count. |
| ***(Religion or Ethics)* — *(school year)*** | Student and class name, separately per class, with a count. |

Both lists are **positive only**, and the app states this on them: "This
list shows only the students enrolled in after-school care, with their
hours. We do not build a list of students who are not enrolled." On the
classes list it justifies it more firmly: "We do not produce a list of
students who are not — a school may not collect statements of
non-attendance."

That has a practical consequence worth knowing: **the school cannot see
from these lists who has not signed up**, and cannot read off how many
declarations are still missing. Your child's absence from a list is not a
signal to them that you refused.

Both lists have a **Print list** button, which opens the browser's
ordinary print dialogue — the care room works from paper, not a screen.
[Class views and printouts](/en/teacher/class-views-and-printouts) covers
this in more detail.

If somebody at the school opens a list they have no access to, they see
"Nobody in this class is enrolled in after-school care, or you do not have
access to this list." — one message for two situations, so an empty list
does not always mean "nobody signed up".
